He is born of Polish immigrants in the US. His parents moved to the US in the 1960s. The parents were highly accomplished professionals. His father was an economics professor who taught at the City University in New York. Jacob was born in the heart of Brooklyn he grew up in New York and attended the university where he studied several courses including a degree in medicine. Jacob Gottlieb’s choice of a career in later life can be attributed to the fact that he blended the professions of his father and mother to emerge with something in between. His interest in starting a hedge fund in healthcare can be attributed to the analysis he made that patients needed funding to foot their health care bills. Gotlieb took his studies at the New York University Medical School and graduated with an M.D. degree. He also pursued a Chartered Financial Analyst course before he went for medicine. He was awarded the CFA charter by the Association of Investment Management and Research. He added a B.A in economics which he studied at the Brown University in Rhode Island. Gottlieb quit the medical profession shortly after his internship to become a financial analyst.
